Journey of Growth and Grace Emmanuel Methodist Matriculation Higher Secondary School a co-educational institution managed by the Chennai Regional Conference of the Methodist Church in India. It is one among the 257 schools run by the Methodist Church in India. Since its inception, the school has been committed to serving the underprivileged children in the surrounding villages through quality education.
1974 The school began its journey on July 1974 as part of the village outreach programme of the Missions and Evangelism Committee of Emmanuel Methodist Church, Vepery, Chennai. It was the first English-medium school in Pudur, envisioned to bring education within reach of underprivileged children in the surrounding villages.
On 7th July 1974, the school opened its doors in a small thatched shed with one teacher and seven students, marking the humble yet impactful beginning of Emmanuel Methodist School.
1989-1993 A major milestone was the laying of the Foundation Stone for the school building on 19th April 1989 by Bishop M. Elia Peter. The building was later inaugurated on 17th December 1990 by Bishop Kariappa Samuel. During this phase, the school gradually expanded its facilities in a phased manner.
Until 1993, the school functioned on the premises of the Emmanuel Methodist Tamil Church.
On 20th May 1991, the school was upgraded to a High School.
However, the institution faced a tragic setback when, on 17th September 1993, a fire accident destroyed the thatched-roof buildings. Despite the severe loss of property, the school remained grateful for God’s protection as no lives were lost.
Over the years, our School has been blessed with the generous support of well-wishers, partners, and sponsors who have shared our vision for providing quality education and holistic development to children.
Their timely encouragement, financial assistance, and moral support have played a vital role in strengthening the School’s mission and sustaining its growth through various phases.
Mrs. & Mr. Arthur Clamp stepped in with gracious support during a crucial period when earlier sponsorships concluded. Their commitment laid a strong foundation, and this noble legacy is being faithfully continued by their son, Mr. David Clamp, whose ongoing support remains a source of strength and encouragement to the Institution.
1994-2015 A new building was constructed after the fire and dedicated on 2nd July 1994 by Bishop James.
The school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School on 1st June 1999.
Several key buildings and facilities were added:
